Welcome to my basement project blog
March 28th 2010:
Well of course this was another one of those weekends that was crazy. Aoife had another cheerleading competition all weekend at
the Peterson Center at Pitt. Melissa went on Saturday and I went on Sunday. My simple accomplishment for this weekend was to
snap the chalklines on the floor where the framing is going to be done for the rest of the walls. This is a two man job, so I
enlisted Kemper's help again. I told him that this weekend he will need to help me attach the sole plates to the floor and I
think I'm going to have him help do some cutting of the wood as well. We picked out the shower that we are going to install and
it's going to be nice. It had to be picked out because I needed to know how far away to mark for the walls that are around the
shower area.
March 21st 2010:
Another busy weekend. Aoife had a cheerleading competition at Robert Morris in Moon on Sunday. I was there with her all afternoon
and they did great. They won 1st place! It is my objective to accomplish something every weekend on the basement, even if it's
just a little bit of work. So, I ran another home-run of romex to the panel from the outlet that will feed the entertainment
system. I'm going to dedicate a single 15amp circuit to that and feed the sidewalk post light as well from that circuit. It's not
hooked up in the panel yet, but it's ready to go. I also removed the plastic white covering over the studs that have insulation
between them at the back of the house. I will need to remove the insulation to run electric there as well as prepare for the wall
construction for the bathroom and closet. I removed all of the staples that were holding up that plastic too. I have clear plastic
to go back up over the insulation so I can see the studs to help hang the drywall easier.
March 14th 2010:
Was a real busy weekend, so I didn't get a whole lot done on the basement. I was able to connect the electric up for the lights in
the basement inside the panel. Doing something for the first time always has a little nervousness to it. I've never actually
connected up anything inside an electrical panel myself before and electricity is nothing to scoff at. I'm proud to say that it
worked out great! I now have a lot more light in the basement and nothing blew up and I didn't get shocked. :)
I also ran some romex between the outlet boxes that are installed. I will need to buy more 2x4s and some other stuff to continue
the project at this point. Should get that stuff done this weekend.
March 7th 2010:
Well, this weekend I made a mess. I ripped a section of drywall off in the garage at the electical service panel so I can run some
romex cable from the basement to the panel. I mounted the 6 resessed can lights and ran the romex between them as well as to the
box for the switch that I mounted. Kemper helped me with running the romex from the garage to the basement for the light circuit.
It's always nice to have a good helper like him! The cable is ready to be run into the electrical panel for the lights. I also
mounted several boxes for the outlets that will be installed as well as drilled the holes in the 2x4s for the romex to run between
the boxes.
